By engaging in an escape room, students practise critical thinking — problem-solving, communication, collaboration, interpretation, time management — in a dynamic environment.
Can you share any specific lessons or subjects where Escaply has been especially effective and engaging for your students?
I've used Escaply mostly in maths, as formative assessments in the middle of a unit. It's a fun activity to round off the week!
How did you find Escaply? What do you like about it?
I went to the SETT fair a couple of years ago and took part in a workshop on escape rooms — there we got to try Escaply as the exit ticket for the workshop! Escape rooms are great fun but can take a lot of preparation. Escaply makes it easy to create a virtual escape room, and once it's done it's easy to reuse for different classes and groups without loads of prep!
What do your students think?
They get really caught up in the challenge! From trying to find where the keys are, to working out which task they need to solve to move on to the next room. I usually have them work in pairs, and there's a lot of collaboration — even between pairs, helping each other get out!
What would you recommend to other teachers who want to get started?
I'd recommend trying the escape rooms already available on Escaply. They give you a sense of how to structure and adapt your own escape rooms to meet your students' needs.
How have you seen Escaply affect your students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills?
By engaging in an escape room, students practise critical thinking — problem-solving, communication, collaboration, interpretation, time management — in a dynamic environment. Escaply's interactive platform means students learn these skills in a way that's both fun and effective, leading to a deeper, more hands-on understanding of critical thinking.
